It's Possible
Without God life is full of seemingly impossible and hopeless situations – how often we have to realize that we are helpless and there is nothing that we can do to change them. We desperately need God..
I have been pondering the fact that God specializes in impossible situations…today I pulled out my notebook and re-read the notes I had taken in February this year during a sermon called “That’s Impossible.”
Think about Moses…after breaking the first commandment stones that God had made, God asks Moses to make another set just like the first and to have them ready in the morning. What did Moses know about rock carving, and then there was a crazy time deadline. Moses might have just as well said “That’s Impossible!” But the Word says that he succeeded – that he rose up early – it looks like he got the job done and even got some sleep! What a powerful picture of what we can do with God's help if we don’t view something as impossible.
Then there is the story of Caleb and Joshua. Will God ever call us to do the impossible? If He calls us, it is possible. Caleb and Joshua believed God that it was possible for them to enter the land of Canaan and in the end after the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness they were able to enter in the land, while all those who believed it was impossible died in the wilderness.
And of course David is a brilliant example too as he faced Goliath. He had faith, He knew whose side he was on. Do we? As he went in the name of the Lord his weapons of faith and trust were stronger than any earthly armor that he could have carried. In human terms it was impossible for him to defeat this enemy, but he trusts that the Lord will deliver him and he runs towards the giant. God used a simple stone to slay the giant. When you have faith in God all things are possible.
Elijah goes to visit Ahab, the people are in trouble because they have forsaken the Lord. There is the great showdown on Mount Carmel to see whose God is the greatest. Baal doesn’t seem to hear the cries of the pagan priests. Now it is Elijah’s turn and he pours 12 barrels of water over the altar – it looks like he hardly stands a chance of his offering being consumed. Elijah prays – it doesn’t matter how many people are on the other side, you and the Lord are a majority – and then the impossible happens. God answers and the entire altar including the water is consumed!
Jesus once asked, “Do you believe I can do this? According to your faith be it unto you.” This was an impossible situation – these men had been blind for years, and yet they see again. What is impossible is often made possible with God. And then again if we choose to disobey God what is possible becomes impossible!
Don’t stop and reason and question and argue! If God said it, he can do it. God has solutions that we cannot dream of. If God is for us, who can be against us?
Our lives are full of seeming impossibilities. Everything we try shows it’s impossible. But God has a big plan for our lives. It involves putting our faith and trust in Him. When we are ready to say “I can’t do it,” then God says “Okay, let me do it for you.” With God all things are possible. The victory you long for is inevitable if you will hold God’s hand, submit your will to His and see what He can do.
