  • How We Live...

    Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at
    hand. Philippians 4:5

    Moderation:  the state or quality of being moderate;
    avoidance of extremes; a change which improves quality; something which avoids
    excesses
    ; an instance of moderating; to bring away from extremes; self-control;
    supervision;

    As I pondered this
    verse, in real life for me it seems to mean living what we believe to be true,
    without exception because exception is really a denial of the truth and leads
    to unbelief and confusion both for ourselves and for those that observe
    us.  We need to be a consistent witness.
    Those around us need to know that we value the truth enough to live it, and see
    first hand that the truth truly makes a difference in our daily lives.  How we live says far more than what we say.

  • Oh you are so right....others are watching us all the time to see if we really are Christians.
    moderation.....now that is a good word to ponder on....I like that....a change witch improves quality....I like this....thanks Colleen

  • I was just thinking about this the other day as I prayed about my example to my sons. I laughed because the prayer came out, "Lord, move me and shut my mouth." :)   Blessings, Laurie

  • So true > how we live speaks far more than what we say > that can be both convicting, if we are not walking as we should be, and reassuring, if we miss an opportunity to speak up. All is not then lost.

  • and once again....i am made to think and consider what my life says.

  • Beautiful truths here! That last sentence...I witness it all the time!

  • I came via Over_my_coffee_cup... And I agree that moderation, or balance, is the best way to live.

  • such a blessing to me today.  a good foothold as I step out into another new day..... thank you :)

  • i like to use that verse as a good "rule of thumb" for pretty much anything....use moderation....find a good balance....thanks for sharing that~

  • How I live DOES show (more than my words) the true Christian within me . . . and, sometimes, I fail miserably!

  • So very true! Thank you for your thoughts.

  • "something which avoids excesses" I find that helpful because I am given to extremes, oh that self-control thing--I know I can't do it without the Spirit's empowering, left to my own devices--no way. Thank God for His provision and equipping so I can let my moderation be known.

    Thanks for these thoughts today! God Bless ~Dawne

  • I found your site through brokenbread.  I really enjoyed your tought today.  I often, and I do mean often, bring this thought before myself and my children.  It is hard for us to find moderation and to continually live it as my husband is bipolar.  But it is possible to govern ourselves with God's help.  We cannot always control the situations we are put in by others, but we can control our responses.  Thank you....I needed your fresh take on the subject.

  • So true!  Consistency is so important in our witness, in our parenting, in all we do.  And so hard to accomplish apart from the Holy Spirit.  Thanks for the reminder!

  • Actions speak louder than words! That is one of my Mama's favorite sayings and it seems to fit the thoughts here!!!

  • They say that this generation of young people hears with their eyes. They long to see genuineness and consistency in lives more than anything. In our fallen world the opposite is the norm. Great post!

  • A really smart post. There is wisdom in that. Moderation.....yes. We don't want to be extremists.
